Fire Fighting Foam Replacement
Fire Fighting Foam Replacement
Ensure compliance and performance with our flushing and cleaning services. We help you meet 2026 PFAS, PFOS and PFOA regulations while restoring reliability to your sprinkler systems and foam tanks using safe, eco-friendly methods.
We assess the condition of the fire fighting foam system upfront to identify dead-legs, corrosion, access limitations, and technical risks. This precise scoping reduces uncertainty during execution and helps ensure the work is completed within the vessel’s planned maintenance window.
Replacing firefighting foam alone does not ensure that a firefighting system is ready for PFAS free operation. Legacy systems that have contained fluorinated foam may retain residual fluorinated substances on internal surfaces and within components. Cleaning focuses on preparing the existing system for PFAS free foam by addressing residual contamination and system suitability, rather than the foam product itself. This forms an essential part of a compliant and verifiable transition, as addressed through NGP FoamSafe™.
Controlled draining of PFAS, PFOS and PFOA foam into UN-approved IBC containers. Nordic Green Products manages the full waste handling scope, including labelling, logistics, transport, and certified high-temperature destruction. This ensures regulatory compliance without adding workload or risk for vessel crew.
Sampling of rinse water and relevant system points establishes system cleanliness. Nordic Green Products provides full chain-of-custody documentation and accredited third-party laboratory analysis, supporting Class surveys, Port State Control inspections, and internal compliance requirements.
Final refilling with Class-approved fluorine-free firefighting foam (F3). Where required, Nordic Green Products coordinates hardware upgrades such as pumps or proportioners through established partners to ensure system compatibility with F3 foam and safe operational readiness.

NGP FoamSafe Transition™
A defined framework for preparing firefighting foam systems for PFAS, PFOS and PFOA-free foam
From 1 January 2026, IMO MSC.532(107) prohibits the use or storage of firefighting foam containing PFOS. Combined with EU PFAS restrictions, vessel owners must ensure that fire suppression systems are not only refilled with fluorine-free foam (F3), but properly prepared, cleaned, and documented in a way that supports compliance at survey.
NGP FoamSafe™ is Nordic Green Products’ defined framework for preparing firefighting foam systems when transitioning from fluorinated to PFAS-free foam. The framework addresses system condition, residual fluorinated substances, and documentation considerations beyond the foam concentrate itself.
NGP FoamSafe™ is not a certification, approval, or guarantee. It is a structured, technically grounded approach to system preparation, developed to support regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
What NGP FoamSafe™ delivers
NGP FoamSafe™ is designed to reduce risk and complexity for vessel owners and operators by treating foam replacement as a system preparation process, not a consumables change.
The framework focuses on delivering:
- Prepared firefighting foam systems, not just new foam
- Controlled removal of residual PFAS, addressing tanks, piping, and system components
- Documented system readiness, suitable for Class and regulatory review
- Coordinated execution, aligned with planned maintenance windows
- Single point of contact, even when hardware modifications are required
Within the NGP FoamSafe™ framework, Nordic Green Products’ primary scope covers system decontamination, hazardous waste handling, sampling, documentation, and refilling with fluorine-free foam. Where required, hardware-related work such as pump or proportioner modifications is coordinated through established fire fighting service partners.
Why a defined framework matters
PFAS, PFOS and PFOA compounds can remain embedded in tank walls, pipework, gaskets, and corrosion layers long after old foam is drained.
If these residual substances are not addressed, they may migrate back into newly installed fluorine-free foam, creating compliance risk, additional cost, and potential findings during survey or inspection.
NGP FoamSafe™ addresses this risk by focusing on:
- System condition
- Residual fluorinated substances
- Verification and documentation requirements
This ensures the transition to PFAS-free foam is handled as a technical and compliance-driven process, rather than a simple product change.
Proven execution under real operating conditions
The Nordic Green Products team has executed fire fighting foam replacement and PFAS-related system preparation under the NGP FoamSafe™ framework on approximately 80 vessels since 2023.
Projects include ferries, offshore vessels, and merchant ships operating under SOLAS requirements.
Work has been performed during dry-dockings, alongside in port, and while vessels are operational, coordinated to minimize disruption and align with survey requirements.
