Project summary
NGP was contracted to carry out full surface treatment and coating of 25 box coolers on Skandi Seven during docking in Cape Town. The scope included chemical and mechanical cleaning, surface preparation, coating, pressure testing and tube flushing.
How we worked
All coolers were manually cleaned and treated with NGP’s bio-based, non-toxic cleaning agents. After high-pressure washing and chemical treatment, coolers were air-dried and then sandblasted with Garnet grit #80. Two coats of Säkatonit Extra AR-F Red were applied with 24 hours between coats, followed by full curing and detailed cleaning of tubesheets and internal pipes.
Results
All coolers were delivered clean, recoated, and ready for service. Some tubes were plugged where required, and all units passed pressure testing. Tube-by-tube flushing ensured complete removal of residues, and the coolers were handed over for reinstallation on schedule.
What we used
- Garnet grit #80
- Säkatonit Extra AR-F Red (2-coat system)
- NGP Bio Clean (OSPAR/HOCNF/REACH approved)
- Pressurised air and water for internal cleaning
- Full sandblasting and painting setup
Reflections
This was a high-volume and technically detailed project, managed in close collaboration with the yard and DOF. The result is a fleet of coolers that are fully protected and prepared for long-term performance.
