Project summary
We were assigned to clean and recoat 12 box coolers on board the vessel Lunni, docked at Fayard shipyard in Denmark. The job included inspection, mechanical and high-pressure cleaning, sandblasting, coating, and final assembly of components.
How we worked
The project started with a visual inspection, followed by careful manual scraping and high-pressure washing. Coolers were air-dried before being blasted with garnet mesh 30/60. After sandblasting, we cleaned and dried them again before applying two coats of Säkatonit Extra AR-F Red. After curing, we ground the tubesheets and flushed each pipe with compressed air and water. Touch-up painting was performed where needed.
Results
All 12 coolers were delivered fully recoated and reassembled within the set timeframe. Despite tight logistics and minor delays, the project was completed to high technical standards through close collaboration with the shipyard.
What we used
- High-pressure washers
- Garnet mesh 30/60 for blasting
- Säkatonit Extra AR-F Red (2-coat system)
- Compressed air and clean water for flushing
- Grinding tools for tubesheets
Reflections
The coolers were larger than expected, which made handling challenging and required precision during every step. Equipment breakdowns and forklift issues caused some delays, but quick problem-solving and teamwork kept the project on track.
