Project Overview

Torghatten is phasing out fluorinated firefighting foam across its fleet. As part of this transition, NGP was engaged to clean the foam tank on MF Lysingen, remove all existing C6 foam and refill the system with a REACH-compliant fluor-free alternative.

The work was performed at Moen Verft and followed our established procedure for safe handling, tank cleaning and documentation.

Work Performed

NGP removed all remaining C6 foam from the tank and associated pipework using specialized pumping equipment. Fluor Clean Gel™ was then applied throughout the system to break down film-forming residues and ensure effective cleaning before rinsing.

All pipes, injectors and internal tank surfaces were flushed, inspected and verified clean. Wastewater and removed foam were collected in dedicated IBC containers for certified disposal. Water samples were taken for laboratory analysis in accordance with customer requirements.

Once the system was cleaned, the foam tank was refilled with 3850 liters of ECOPOL 3% fluor-free foam, ensuring full operational readiness while meeting updated environmental expectations.

Result

MF Lysingen’s foam system was successfully cleaned, documented and converted to fluor-free foam. All waste materials were handled responsibly, and the vessel now operates with a compliant, environmentally safer firefighting medium.
