Project Overview
NGP was engaged to service the foam concentrate system aboard Solstad Farstad’s Normand Tonjer, a high-end offshore subsea construction vessel. The cylinders form part of a fixed Marioff firefighting installation, and this delivery marks the first Marioff system completed under our FoamSafe Transition™ programme.
The scope covered controlled removal of the existing foam concentrate, full decontamination of cylinders and connecting pipework, and refill with new foam concentrate ready for class.
Work Performed
The team mobilised to the vessel and emptied all foam concentrate cylinders into dedicated IBCs for certified disposal. Each cylinder was then opened for visual inspection. Internal surfaces and pipework were found in good condition, with no rust or corrosion observed.
Decontamination followed our FoamSafe Transition procedure using Fluor Clean Fluid to break down PFAS film-forming residues across the wetted surfaces. Cylinders were soaked, rinsed in stages and dried. Connecting pipe sections were dismantled and treated separately to ensure that the limited foam-exposed sections of the system received the same level of cleaning as the cylinders themselves. A water sample from the final rinse was taken and retained for documentation.
Once the system was verified clean, the cylinders were refilled with new foam concentrate to customer specification, and the system handed back operational. All waste streams were segregated, labelled and prepared for collection and certified destruction.
Result
The Marioff foam system was cleaned, refilled and documented. Old concentrate and rinse water were collected, labelled and removed from site.
This project confirmed that our FoamSafe Transition™ methodology transfers cleanly to Marioff cylinder geometries, broadening the range of fixed foam installations we can service across the Solstad Farstad fleet and the wider offshore market. With Marioff systems widely deployed in machinery spaces on offshore and merchant tonnage, this is a meaningful capability addition.
Reflections
The vessel crew was highly cooperative throughout, and the operation was completed without disruption to other onboard activity. The Marioff configuration introduced some variations from a typical bulk-tank foam job, and the FoamSafe Transition™ procedure handled them without changes to the core method. NGP is now positioned to support Marioff foam concentrate replacements on similar offshore, subsea and merchant tonnage going forward.
