Project summary
NGP provided technical support and Odin Gel for surface cleaning during construction of C, P and U modules for the Johan Sverdrup development at SHI in Korea. The goal was to assist in critical cleaning of stainless steel, aluminium and painted surfaces before sail-away.
How we worked
Our supervisor worked onsite for three weeks, participating in module walkthroughs, identifying areas suited for gel application, and conducting product tests. Odin Gel was applied to deck plates, stainless steel and coated areas. Tests were evaluated together with SHI and Statoil (Equinor). The supervisor coordinated with project leads, participated in daily operations and secured performance documentation. Final cleaning results were shared and supported further application plans for the hook-up phase in Norway.
Results
Odin Gel performed well in controlled tests, demonstrating high cleaning effect after 24–48 hours. Despite challenges with coordination, shifting responsibilities and a busy worksite, NGP successfully introduced Odin Gel as a preferred cleaning product on several module areas. Statoil acknowledged the product’s performance, and results were brought forward to the Norwegian phase.
What we used
- Odin Gel
- Application training
- Manual and HT cleaning (cold and warm)
- Daily progress documentation
- Technical and HSE support for SHI and Statoil
Reflections
This project was key in building awareness around Odin Gel’s performance in large-scale offshore fabrication. Working within a complex matrix of responsibilities required strong communication and professionalism. Results from Korea contributed directly to Odin Gel’s continued use in Norway.
