Project Overview
The scope of work encompassed the cleaning and inspection of all 11 box coolers onboard the Bourbon Liberty 320. The team arrived at the yard on April 16, with the first two coolers being removed on April 20. Preparations included setting up cleaning tanks and a lifting yoke in front of the vessel, located at the front of the floating dock.
Cleaning Process
The cleaning phase began with high-pressure (HP) washing and manual scraping. Many coolers were heavily fouled with marine growth, necessitating thorough cleaning. The comprehensive procedure involved:
- HP-washing: Initial cleaning to remove loose debris.
- Manual scraping: Removal of stubborn marine growth.
- Water flushing: Cleaning the inside of tubes, which were clogged with mud.
- Chemical bath: Submerging the coolers to dissolve marine growth effectively.
- Multiple flushes: Ensuring all residues were eliminated.
Sandblasting
While awaiting garnet mesh from Nigeria, NGP opted to use oven-dried, filtered river sand available at the yard for sandblasting. NGP performed a successful test on the first cooler before the yard proceeded with the remaining 10 coolers.
Final Steps
Post-cleaning, the coolers were laid down for the cleaning of tubesheets and blowing compressed air through each tube to ensure they were all open and clean. The gasket surfaces were hand-rolled to ensure smoothness. Despite encountering windblown sand during the process, the team sanded down the surfaces to maintain their integrity.
NGP's ability to adapt and uphold high standards in marine maintenance ensured the successful cleaning and preparation of the Bourbon Liberty 320’s box coolers. This project exemplifies their expertise and dedication to delivering top-quality services in the marine industry.
