Project summary
NGP was brought in to carry out full recoating of box coolers on Bourbon Liberty 304. The job was done at NKOM Yard in Qatar and included inspection, mechanical support coil adjustments, pressure testing, and coating using our flooding method.
How we worked
When we arrived, the coolers were already dismantled and prepared for sandblasting. Pressure testing was carried out at 6 bar on all coolers. Support coils were replaced as necessary to ensure the bundles remained secure. The high-temperature (HT) coolers underwent extended cleaning, including chemical treatment and HCl bath to prepare for coating.
Coating began with flooding of the first units, followed by a staged application of second coats and preparation of remaining coolers. Gasket surfaces were masked and hand-rolled after curing to ensure clean sealing surfaces.
Results
All coolers were successfully coated and delivered back to the vessel within the planned timeframe. Gasket surfaces and flanges were finished and touch-up work was completed prior to final delivery. The coolers were protected and packed, ready for reinstallation.
What we used
- Säkatonit Extra AR-F Red
- NGP Descaling cleaning process
- HP washer
- Masking and rolling tools
- Pressure test equipment (6 bar)
- Support coil replacements
Reflections
This project was completed within a tight schedule, involving coordinated effort between NGP and yard teams across several shifts. All coolers were recoated with full quality assurance, and the team adapted well to the work environment and project logistics.
