Project summary
NGP was assigned to recoat nine box coolers on Bourbon Liberty 252. Six coolers were removed from the vessel, cleaned, sandblasted and recoated using flooding. The remaining three coolers were cleaned and spray-painted in place.
How we worked
The six removed units were manually scraped, high-pressure washed and chemically cleaned before being air-dried and sandblasted with garnet grit 30/60. They were then recoated with two layers of Säkatonit Extra AR-F Red. The three aft coolers, which were more difficult to access, were cleaned directly onboard and spray-coated.
Results
All coolers received proper treatment according to access and condition. Tubesheets were cleaned and ground, and each pipe was flushed with pressurised air and water to ensure internal cleanliness. Coolers were handed back ready for reinstallation.
What we used
- Polycarbonate scraping tools
- Garnet Mesh 30/60 blasting media
- Säkatonit Extra AR-F Red (2-coat system)
- HP washer and air-drying setup
- Chemical bath with NGP Marine Descaler for marine growth removal
Reflections
The project was completed on time through close cooperation with the yard and vessel team. By combining two methods – flooding and in-place spraying – we ensured optimal results despite logistical constraints.
