Project summary
NGP carried out full recoating of seven box coolers on Bourbon Liberty 160. All units were already dismantled upon arrival and were handled onshore. Work included cleaning, sandblasting, pressure testing and coating with Säkatonit Extra AR-F.
How we worked
Coolers were manually scraped and cleaned using compressed air. The previous coating had limited adhesion, which made parts of the removal process easier. After sandblasting with Scorex 06, the surfaces were prepared for coating. Each unit was coated in two layers over two days, followed by 48 hours curing time. Tubesheets were then cleaned and each tube flushed individually with air and water before handover.
Results
All seven coolers were successfully recoated and cleaned to NGP standards. Pressure tests confirmed integrity of the units, and one damaged tube was plugged. The job was delivered on time in cooperation with the shipyard.
What we used
- Scorex 06 sand for blasting
- Säkatonit Extra AR-F Red (2-coat system)
- Compressed air and HP washer
- Grinding tools for tubesheets
- Air + water tube flushing
Reflections
Despite minor technical delays during sandblasting, the project went smoothly with a highly cooperative team on site. All coolers were returned in excellent condition and ready for reinstallation.
