Project summary
NGP was contracted to carry out a full recoating of all 17 box coolers onboard Bahtera Azalea. The work was performed at ASL Shipyard in Batam and included high-pressure washing, mechanical and chemical cleaning, sandblasting, coating and internal flushing.
How we worked
Due to extensive marine growth, all units were chemically treated using a mix of 30% Valhall Fluid and 70% fresh water. High-pressure washing and manual scraping followed before the units were sandblasted. Painting was carried out in a designated indoor space with two coats applied, 24 hours apart. Gasket surfaces were masked, and after curing, the tape was removed and the area was hand rolled.
Results
All coolers were fully cleaned and recoated with proper curing time. Tubesheets were grinded, and all internal tubes flushed using pressurised water to remove coolant, chemicals and debris. Coolers were delivered clean and ready for reinstallation, with handling done in cooperation with the yard.
What we used
- Valhall Clean Gel (30/70 mix)
- Garnet grit
- Säkatonit Extra AR-F (2-coat system)
- Grinding and flushing tools
- Designated indoor painting area
- One-inch hose flushing system for tubes
Reflections
A well-executed, high-volume project with close cooperation between NGP and ASL Shipyard. All units were treated with care, and our coating and cleaning systems delivered the required quality on schedule. We thank Bourbon and ASL for a great collaboration.
