Nordic Green Products has carried out FoamSafe Transition™ projects for three Bourbon platform supply vessels (PSVs) in Walvis Bay, Namibia. The projects covered firefighting foam system decontamination and replacement of existing foam concentrate with fluorine-free foam, supporting continued use of the vessels’ existing systems.

The work involved Bourbon Explorer 510, Bourbon Explorer 512 and Bourbon Explorer 519, with assignments carried out during 2026.

For vessel owners and operators, replacing firefighting foam also means addressing residues from the previous concentrate in the existing system. Across these projects, NGP’s scope covered cleaning of foam tanks and associated pipework, followed by refilling with new foam concentrate.

Extending the useful life of existing systems

NGP’s FoamSafe Transition™ cleaning method supports the reuse of existing firefighting foam tanks and pipework when their condition and suitability allow. Decontamination can therefore provide an alternative to replacing equipment as part of the transition to fluorine-free foam.

Keeping suitable equipment in service is a practical contribution to the circular economy. It extends the useful life of existing assets and can reduce the need for new materials and the waste associated with equipment replacement. For offshore vessel operators, this connects the transition to new firefighting foam with more sustainable use of onboard resources.

FoamSafe Transition™ for offshore vessels

The Namibia assignments brought NGP’s FoamSafe Transition™ service to a series of offshore platform supply vessels. Each project addressed the existing installation and the agreed scope for the individual vessel.

On Bourbon Explorer 510 and Bourbon Explorer 519, NGP completed cleaning and refilling, with 1,400 litres of new foam loaded on each vessel.

Sampling and documentation

Samples were collected for third-party laboratory analysis as part of the projects. The reports received document the results of the cleaning work, supporting the vessels’ preparation for further operations.

Together, the assignments demonstrate NGP’s experience in delivering firefighting foam replacement and PFAS decontamination services for platform supply vessels, with a focus on retaining suitable existing equipment.
