### Project summary

NGP was contracted to carry out full maintenance and recoating of eight box coolers from *Siem Atlas* at Prismar’s workshop in Brazil. The project included mechanical and chemical cleaning, sandblasting, two-coat application and curing.

## How we worked

The coolers were first mechanically cleaned and then submerged in a hydrochloric acid solution (5–7%) to remove marine scaling. They were neutralised in saltwater, flushed, and high-pressure washed. After drying, each cooler was sandblasted with Garnet Mesh 30/60. Painting was done using Säkatonit Extra AR-F, applied in two coats with 72 hours of curing before final prep and delivery.

## Results

All eight coolers were successfully cleaned, recoated and protected with a robust epoxy system designed to prevent galvanic corrosion and improve heat exchange performance. Final curing and surface prep were completed with guidance from NGP and site support from Prismar.

- Thinners: Xylene & N-Butanol mix
- Custom-built curing and drainage setup

## Reflections

This was a technically demanding project with high environmental and material standards. The coating system used will offer long-term protection, better thermal efficiency, and improved resistance to fouling – ensuring operational reliability for years ahead.
